ΓΙΓΑΝΤΕΣ ΣΤΗΝ ΕΛΛΑΔΑ…

Ενα παλιό διασκεδαστικό e-mail που κυκλοφόρησε στις δόξες του Λιακόπουλου …

Παρακαλώ διαβάστε παρακάτω…   Πριν από 10 μέρες περίπου πήρα από τρεις φίλους το συνημμένο το οποίο ομολογώ ότι με συγκλόνισε. Πριν σας το στείλω ζήτησα από τους αποστολείς αλλά και από άλλους φίλους να ψάξουν και αν μπορούν να βρουν περισσότερα σχετικά στοιχεία και μετά να σας στείλω το συνημμένο. Δεν θα ήθελα ποτέ να πέσω θύμα μιας απατηλής σκηνοθετημένης ιστορίας και να παρασύρω και σας μαζί.  Όπως είπα και στους φίλους μου, πριν από ένα χρόνο περίπου αν θυμάμαι καλά είχα διαβάσει ένα σχετικό άρθρο στο περιοδικό «ΤΟ ΤΡΙΤΟ ΜΑΤΙ» που έλεγε ότι σε κάποιες ανασκαφές που γίνονταν στην Κέρκυρα είχε ανακαλυφθεί ένα ανθρώπινο μηριαίο οστό  το οποίο από τις σχετικές σωματομετρικές μελέτες διαπιστώθηκε ότι ανήκε σε ανθρώπινο όν ύψους …6 μέτρων. Το ρεπορτάζ συνοδευόταν και από τη φωτογραφία του μηριαίου οστού. Δεν του έδωσα και πολύ  μεγάλη σημασία και το θέμα έμεινε εκεί μέχρι που πήρα το συνημμένο. Μέχρι σήμερα δεν είχα καμμιά απάντηση από τους αποστολείς, ώσπου από μη αναμενόμενη κατεύθυνση ήρθε μια σχετική προφορική πληροφορία. Σας διαβεβαιώ ότι το άτομο αυτό, του οποίου δεν μπορώ να σας αποκαλύψω την ταυτότητα,  είναι πλήρως αξιόπιστο με πολλή μεγάλη θέση στην κοινωνία και στον πνευματικό κόσμο, και το οποίο είπε ότι » Στην περιοχή των Μυκηνών ( κοιτάξτε το χάρτη ) μια αρχαιολογική ομάδα που διενεργούσε ανασκαφές, ανεκάλυψε σκελετούς γιγαντιαίων ανθρώπων εκτιμώμενου ύψους …6 μέτρων περίπου. Μετά την ενημέρωση των αρμοδίων προϊσταμένων αρχών, δόθηκε αυστηρή εντολή στην αρχαιολογική ομάδα να αποσιωπηθεί τελείως το θέμα, όπως είπε χαρακτηριστικά, «επί ποινή θανάτου»  «. Τώρα δικαιολογείται η απόλυτη έλλειψη οποιασδήποτε σχετικής πληροφόρησης. Βέβαια η ιστορία αυτή δεν θα μείνει για πολύ καιρό κρυφή γιατί το ρητό «ουδέν κρυπτόν υπό τον Ήλιον» είναι νομοτελειακό. Να είστε βέβαιοι ότι αργά ή γρήγορα θα βγει στη φόρα και τότε θα βλέπουμε «αλλού τον παπά κι αλλού τα ράσα του». Προς το παρόν για μένα το θέμα μένει εκκρεμές. Ότι καινούργιο μάθω θα σας ενημερώνω και εσάς από την πλευρά σας θα σας παρακαλέσω ότι σχετικό, έστω και ασήμαντο, μάθετε να με ενημερώνετε. Κάποιοι θα πρέπει κάποτε να μάθουν να μη φοβούνται την αλήθεια, όσο οδυνηρή κι αν είναι, όσο κι αν μας χαλάει τη σούπα της κατεστημένης γνώσης.

This region of the Arabian desert is called the Empty Quarter, or in Arabic, ‘Rab-Ul-Khalee’. The discovery was made by the Aramco Exploration team. As God states in the Quran that He had created people of phenomenal size the like of which He has not created since. These were the people of Aad where Prophet Hud was sent. They were very tall, big, and very powerful, such that they could put their arms around a tree trunk and uproot it. Later these people, who were given all the power, turned against God and the Prophet and transgressed beyond all boundaries set by God. As a result they were destroyed.Ulema’s of Saudi Arabia believe these to be the remains of the people of Aad. Saudi Military has secured the whole area and no one is allowed to enter except the ARAMCO personnel. It has been kept in secrecy, but a military helicopter took some pictures from the air and one of the pictures leaked out into the internet in Saudi Arabia. See the attachment and note the size of the two men standing in the picture in comparison to the size of the skeleton !!

Legendary skeleton Recent exploration activity in the northern region of India uncovered a skeletal remains of a human of phenomenal size. This region of the Indian desert is called the Empty Quarter.The exploration team also found tablets with inscriptions that stated that our Gods of Indian mythologicalyore, Brahma, had created people of phenomenal size the like of which He has not created since. They were very tall, big, and very powerful, such that they could put their arms around a tree trunk and uproot it. They were created to bring order among us since we were always fighting with each other. One of he sons of Bhima of the Pandava brothers is also thought of to have been carrying these genes. Later these people, who were given all the power turned against all our Gods and transgressed beyond all boundaries set. As a result they were destroyed by God Shiva. The Geo Exploration team believes these to be the remains of those people. Govt of India has secured the whole area and no one is, allowed to enter except the NatGeo personnel.

Commentary:
This classic leg-pull has now been circulating via email, blogs and forums for several years and has even been published by some news outlets as factual. In fact, the «giant skeleton» images that travel with these messages are not photographs depicting real discoveries but instead clever manipulations. A lot of recipients would be quick to doubt the authenticity of the images. However, submissions indicate that the high quality of the fake images coupled with the vaguely plausible explanations that accompany them are apparently enough to convince many recipients that the «discoveries» are genuine.So far, there have been two popular variants of the hoax. The first variant (Example 1 above) claims that a skeleton of a gigantic human was discovered during a gas exploration in the south east region of the Arabian desert and sports an attached photograph to «prove» the claim. However, the cleverly created image of the giant skeleton is actually an entry in an image manipulation contestby artist «IronKite» in which participants were instructed to create «a picture of an archaeological discovery that looks so real, had it not appeared at Worth1000, people might have done a double take».The message tries to add legitimacy to its fanciful tale by referencing the Quran’s Prophet Hud and the people of Aad (or «Ad»). Some Islamic references do claim that the people of Aad were thought to be giants. However, other material describes them as having a «stature tall among the nations» or as simply being «physically well-built». The Christian Bible also makes mention of giants.

The second variant (Example 2 above) moves the «action» to the Indian desert and replaces the Islamic references with mentions of characters in Indian mythology, including Brahma and Bhima’s son. According to Indian legend, Bhima’s son Ghatotkacha was a powerful fighter with magical abilities, although he is not generally described as a giant. Other than the change in mythological references, much of the wording in the two hoax variants is virtually identical.

The Indian based variant includes IronKite’s image along with three other giant skeleton pictures that also originate from the same Worth1000 contest. The second picture in the set, complete with giant revolver, is titled everlasting rest and was created by amaranto. The third image is an entry simply named Giant Skeleton and was created by Anakinnnn. And the fourth image in the set is named Uncovered Giant and was created by Trit.

The hoax was apparently republished by several media outlets in Indian, Bangladesh and elsewhere. A scan of one of these newspaper articles is included in one version of the hoax email. Such articles have given the hoax undeserved credibility.

IronKite’s creation has even been featured in a YouTube video entitled «Proof evolution is an evil lie from satan (the devil)». The video’s creator uses IronKite’s giant skeleton, along with other dubious images, as «proof» that giants once lived on Earth. The inclusion of a well-documented hoax image, in addition to a number of logical flaws, seriously undermines the video maker’s credibility and has earned him the ridicule of his fellow YouTubers.

The image and «Arabian desert discovery» description is also included in another fanciful YouTube video warning of impending disaster for Earth. Again, the blatant use of a well-known hoax as «proof» decimates what little credibility the video had to begin with.

Even if you do believe that a race of giants once walked the Earth, you can rest assured that these photographs do not depict some of their remains. In their original context as part of a Worth1000 contest, the status of the images as purely fictional «archaeological discoveries» is quite clear. Apparently, however, some unknown prankster stole IronKite’s image from its original setting, added some seemingly relevant text, and sent it on its way. Perhaps due largely to the talent of its creator, the image has circulated ever since. In due course, others have apparently added more Worth1000 images to the hoax messages.

Solving the mystery of the Giant Skeleton

News appeared recently in a section of the media in India, Bangladesh and many other countries that a giant skeleton of enormous dimensions was excavated in some unknown desert. There was also a photograph of the skeleton with two investigators standing nearby. The skeleton’s size can be judged from the height of the person standing near its skull. If calculated proportionately, the skeleton would be of a human having 60 to 80 feet height.

The first report appeared in the internet, telling that the skeleton was found somewhere in the deserts of western India. The Indian government had the area cordoned off by the Indian army and nobody was allowed to visit the site except a special National Geographic excavation team. For some unknown reason, all information about the discovery was kept secret. The report also mentioned about a stone tablet found along with the skeleton with ancient carvings in Sanskrit language on it. The inscription was deciphered and it revealed the secret of the skeleton. «In ancient times there lived giants who were called Rakshasas. They challenged divine orders and were eliminated for that.»

The Indian mythology speaks about giants namely Rakshasas, who reigned over the forests. They ruled a country with the name Lanka and challenged the authority of the gods. In the Hindu epic Ramayana, Vishnu, the chief of the trio of supreme Hindu gods, incarnated in a royal family and killed the king of the Rakshasas. The report of the excavation of a skeleton of a Rakshasa was taken by some people as welcome proof for the reality of the Hindu mythological story. Without verifying the facts, the internet posting was further forwarded, spread widely and was taken very seriously by a large section of people.

A new version of the story appeared on 22 April 2004 in the Bangladesh newspaper The Nation. While reproducing the picture, a report by one Saalim Alvi from Riyadh told about a discovery in the south east of Saudi Arabia. In search of natural gas, a Saudi Aramco exploration team found a giant human skeleton in the desert. In the new version of the story, there is also a stone tablet, but the inscriptions are in Arabic language. They reveal that the skeleton is of a man of the ancient tribe Aad. The Aads were the descendants of the Quranic prophet Nooh (Noah in biblical mythology). They have been mighty giants, who were able to pull out big trees with one hand. The Aads were in charge of controlling the people of ancient times. But they challenged Allah’s orders and were wiped out by him. The place where they lived is known as Rab-ul-Khaale, the empty place. The area where the skeleton had been discovered was overtaken by Saudi military, claimed the report in The Nation, and the picture was taken by a military helicopter.

Without any verification, the story of the discovery of the giant skeleton snowballed through magazines and newspapers around the world.

Genesis of the picture

The paranormal investigation center at the headquarters of Rationalist International made primary inquiries and found that no such discovery had been reported or confirmed by any independent source. The photo, experts suspected, could be manipulated with a photo-editing software. In fact, a close look at the picture revealed that the light falling on the catwalk and the two men in white shirts comes from a different angle and is of different intensity than the light falling on the skeleton. The long shadow in front of the skull does not match with other shadows in the photo. An extremely enlarged version gave further proof that the picture was coined together from different elements. It seemed to be an authentic photo of an excavation with a superimposed human skeleton. The investigation could have ended here. But we found more. With patience and verification of vast possibilities, the original excavation photo was traced in the internet:

This photo was taken on 16 September 2000 at an excavation site outside Hyde Park, New York. It is part of the documentation of a sensational excavation under the Paleontological Research Institution and the Department of Geological Sciences at Cornell University. What the team of more than 60 scientists, students and volunteers under paleontologist Prof. John Chiment discovered was, however, not the skeleton of a giant human being, but the skeleton of a mastodon, an extinct predecessor of the elephant. Actually, the find included one of the most complete fossils of a mastodon and possibly a less-complete mammoth. The animals lived between 10,000 and 14,000 years ago. There is an interesting detail: At the lower right of the photo is an intact tusk behind a plywood dam and under a protective coating of mud. A major challenge, explains the excavation report, is to allow this tusk to dry without having it shatter into fragments. This mastodon tusk is still visible in the manipulated photo of the giant human excavation!

The last station in the history of the picture is the website «Worth1000», which presents a wide range of altered pictures, some artistic, some humorous. The picture that was spread world wide as the Giant Skeleton of Rakshasa of Indian mythology or Aad of Islamic mythology was simply an artistic creation of «IronKite» and was submitted in a competition in the web site Worth1000.com.
